Fall is coming, and while the temperatures are still warm, it’s time to start thinking about items that you can add to your wardrobe for the next season. I truly don’t think anyone should be replacing a ton of items each season to keep up, but rather integrating a few key items to make your current items feel refreshed.
I also feel like some trends can be a little too trendy so I tend to keep to items that I feel are wearable as a mid 40s mom and items that I can see myself wearing for several years (not just a season).
CHOCOLATE BROWN
This year chocolate brown is HUGE and such a wearable trend for everyone. From accessories to blouses and even athleisure this trend is one that is so easy to add into your closet.

SLOUCHY BAGS
I love a great tote and this season the unstructured slouchy tote is trending. Grab one of these styles in a fall color, suede or with metal accents and it will “carry” you though the season!

MARY JANE FLATS
Last year we saw this trend start to emerge and while I was not a first adopter I have found a few of these styles really comfortable and a good alternative to a simple ballet flat. This year we are seeing more metals mixed in with grommets, studs and metal straps. Also trending is patent, mesh and perforated styles this year.

SUEDE
As soon as I start seeing suede show up in accessories I know it’s fall! I typically like to pick up a knee high boot, a bootie and a bag in suede for the season. It’s also a great time to invest in a suede jacket or maybe even a little trendier with a skirt or suede dress.

FLAT FRONT WIDE LEG PANTS
While this trend has been gaining popularity over the past 3 years I’m ALL IN because these fit my body amazing! Now while we have seen the “trouser” pant look become very popular I love that I’m seeing more and more flat front options for those of us that don’t want to accentuate the mama pooch. My favorite are the Wit & Wisdom styles because they also have that ab-solution stretchy internal waistband. Also it has now become my preferred jean style!

BURGUNDY
Last year we saw a bright red trend heavily in fall but this year it’s toned down and that deeper burgundy is back. I love this color because it pairs so well with chocolate brown, olive and cognac colors. If you took a peek at the Target fall home collections these colors were all over! Add it into your wardrobe with a bag, blouse, dress or even beauty items.

ANIMAL PRINT
This trend we are seeing carry over from last fall but it’s not as aggressive of a trend. I’m seeing more small accents of animal print mixed in with the chocolate browns and burgundy but it has become a neutral of fall. I prefer small amounts of animal print in like a bag, classic blouse or slip skirt versus than something like a trendy barrel jean (I see you LOFT).

TS12 ERA ORANGE
Swifties we have been waiting and the Mother delivered with her news of TS12, The Life of a Showgirl dropping this fall and now everything is orange! While this is a more specific trend for those of us who celebrate new Taylor music I couldn’t help but put together some fun ideas (also works for schools with orange as their color!)
